GBI in Normandy
GBI visited Normandy on 5–9 June 2014 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the D Day. Map below shows some of our destinations.
The Journey There
The Germans discuss whether to use them but the French are already using them: road tolls. One just has to find out how the toll booth works.
Afterwards one can enjoy the ride and the view, e.g. crossing of the Seine estuary and Pont de Normandie in Le Havre.
Batterie de Crisbecq
A heavy traffic jam forced us to make a stop in the nearby town of Sainte-Marie-du-Mont. We used the opportunity to check out some old military vehicles – and their drivers.
Fuel saving procedures were in place.
Pointe du Hoc
One could see not only old veterans…
The Journey Back
Low pressure system “Ela” chased us. In Verdun we were two hours away from the front.
GBI will visit Normandy for D Day in 2017, too!
